I Support the Fair Wage Bill Because:
I had worked as a security officer for Intercon Security LTD. for 9 years. Intercon was not unionized. After working straight night shifts for $11/h for 5 years, I asked for a transfer and was denied. I left the site and got suspended for 2 weeks. After my suspension, I became a floater for several months and finally got my new site. The pay was $14/h, but my manager Daud Wafaq paid me $12/h. I was not happy with my pay, and so I asked for a transfer. I got another transfer and this time I got afternoon shifts with weekends off. The pay was still $12/h, but I was happy because I liked the schedule. But the building superitendent at my site, reported to me that my female supervisor was caught by our weekend security guard, at the site in a stairwell with her lover, and it was disgusting, to put it in his own words. I did not report this to Intercon right away. I hesitated for 2-3 weeks, and then reported the incident orally to my manager Daud Wafaq. Before I had a chance to write a detailed incident report, Daud Wafaq and John Galloway decided to transfer me from my site, even though I had not performance issues. I was escorted by my manager Daud Wafaq to my site to pick up my belongings. My memo book was taken away, so that I can never write an incident report regarding my site supervisor. I got a transfer from my site to another site. I liked the schedule but I did not appreciate the property manager and some of the building operators as well as cleaning staff, since they all were related and asked me to do tasks which were not in my post orders. I complained several times in writing to my manager Daud Wafaq, but he did nothing. One day, just before the Christmas of 2012, I had a very busy day and did not appreciate one building operator using a profane language and being disrespectful. So, I raised my voice at him and asked him to leave me alone. He reported me to the property manager who immediately called me and was rude to me over the phone. I put the phone down. Two weeks after that, I asked my manager for a transfer, but he fired me. It was Ralph Snyder who fired me on the spot, without a notice or financial compensation. I almost lost my mind since I had two small children and a wife to support, and I was fired on January 07th 2013 in the dead of winter. I will not mention how hard it was for me and my family to survive after Intercon fired me. I am 100% sure that if Intercon were unionized, me and my family would not have been victims of cruel and heartless managers of Intercon Security Ltd.
